As I have discussed recently, I am Fly Shop Junkie and I visit, and have visited them, from Coast to Coast / North to South when traveling so from Key West to Up East I seek them out and stop by

In my humble opinion, 239 Flies is the Finest local Fly Shop I have been in to date! It is awesome, uncluttered, and has a ton of highly organized gear, clothing and related items all tailored to the Art and Science of Saltwater (and quite sure some Fresh) Fly Fishing! :D It is The Shop this side of Florida Keys Outfitters in Islamorada...

Unannounced before arriving, and like one of those under cover shoppers, I walked in and was warmly greeted by Riley and Jim Davis the GM asking me if I needed any assistance in finding anything? This even though they were working with others, and while working on boxing up and shipping out some gear others had ordered online... More on that important aspect later though ;) Then I started to take more of a in-depth tour looking at various gear and clothing and trust me, this shop could be very dangerous to my wallet!

IMG_1427.JPG

I then started to ask some questions about the brands they carried, and one of the more important aspects and what I feel is a "Perceived Barrier" to the sport, and that is cost! More important for parents having a kid that is just "Ate Up" with Fly Fishing and wanting to learn how to cast and get a good starter combo... Then, you have some teenagers like Miss Stevie Kim-Rubell that in many ways, has checked off (see video below) some of my Buck List items already and already an convert!

So yes, you can spend a lot of money for a high grade Salt and or Freshwater for that matter, Rod and Reel combo... However, do not let that stop you and I was assured by Jim as he was showing me, some quality starter kits from brands like Orvis that are sub $200.00 or even less :)

IMG_1432.JPG

Now don't let the fact that they are a local Fly shop here in SWFL fool you... As they like to say, this location is their "World Headquarters" and with how well their Website is built, they can and do handle orders for gear that is shipped round the World! While I was there for my visit, I was watching the care and attention being given packing a rod and reel combo that was headed I believe, to Upstate New York. Jim also advised me they get orders in from some of the Fly Fishing junkies across the pond from locations like Scotland which is just Awesome to hear!

And don't just think that Flying fishing is the only gear they have. I am in the process of getting a new Skiff, and was very pleased to see that I could get my next Push Pole from them since I sold my last one to go with that Skiff.

IMG_1433.JPG

And not only can see you see some of the Push Poles they have in stock hanging from the ceiling. There is a nice place with plenty of room to have Fly Tying session's right in the Store!

Now how about some High Performance Sunglasses? They have some awesome shades that come in all configurations and price points, this so you can see that next Big Redfish or Poon you are looking to pick a fight with! :p

And my apologies for the above picture being a little fuzzy and I promise never again, to take a visit without bringing my Nikon!

Need some new technical clothing as a base layer or so you are not passed out on the deck in 90 degree plus heat? No Problem, they have you covered (literary) from Head to Toe to help keep you in the Hunt, and in the Fight while tangling with something the size of a small Farm Animal while engaged in Jungle Warfare :D

IMG_1429.JPG

Foaming at the mouth yet? And the question I am sure some are asking is how much damage to my wallet on this visit...? Well let's just say that while writing this article, I am enjoying some fresh ground java in my new 239 Flies Yeti Cup that I bought since she who shall remain nameless, has been giving me Major Grief about using hers all the time! LOL

So, here is their Web Address below which also has their contact information and even directions to the Store on the Website which by the way, is open 7 days a week!

And I wanted to personally thank Jim and the gang at 239 Flies for spending all the time they did with me! All they need now is one of those Old Fashion pull the bottle out real Coke Machines and I would move in! And I am looking forward to working with them on some other projects in the near future  So do stop by and give them a visit in person, this or online and give them a chance to earn your business and become a member of the 239 Flies Family! And if you do, let them know that the Guys from Performance Outdoors.Net sent you!

Tight Lines!

Was at the Shop again today, and picked up more some gear for the new Skiff (more on that later) to add to my collection of things to build it around ;)

Meet Nick the Shop owner, and Captain Codty Pierce who also works at the Shop. Codty was just Awesome helping me with the Tibor Push Pole Caddy with quick release, and future Push Pole selection process!

If you are Skiff Shopping, or looking for some upgrades to your present one, this is one of the items you might want to consider adding and they carry them the Tibor Caddy and a selection of Push Poles as seen in the picture above in stock.

Here is some more information on the Tibor Push Pole Caddy

And more information on them can be found here:

Naturally, the guys at the Shop can give your personal information on them than the Tibor Site, so I would just call them 1st :D

You can learn how to cast with it, and so y'all up North, can keep your casting skills current even while stuck in the house, trying to get a strike and land the Cat :p LOL

Here is a good video on the Training Tool:

And you can find out more about them here:

And the guys at 239 Flies have quite a few them so you can order one from them, and someone seems to always casting one inside the Store when I am there ;)

Quick update, the guys are back to their normal fly tying sessions in the Store and the next one is planned for July 21st at 1900 (7 pm for your non Military types ;))

And here is a interesting recent video on Gary Kreb's Foam Bait-fish that was held at the store not long ago which should much appeal no matter which ecosystem you are "foaming at the mouth" / fishing in :)

Awesome looking little Fly / Jig Hybrid for sure!

For those looking to improve on their Fly Casting, the guys over at 239 Flies are hosing an casting event soon. and here is the notice that was sent to me:

We're excited to inform you that our good friend and casting magician Joe Mahler will be putting on a free fly casting seminar at 239 Flies HQ on Saturday 11/13 starting at 11am.

If you haven't been to one of Joe's casting events before, Joe Mahler is a world renowned shooter of lasers and about the nicest and most personable human being on planet earth. You'll learn a few things about throwing tighter loops and have a hell of a time doing it too. Hope to see you Saturday!

I do not think I can attend since I am covering the Ft. Myers Boat Show on the same day, but if I can break free I will be there for sure
