For those units that support the C-Map chart plotting chips, they have a system that you may not be aware of called "C-MAP Genesis" think of it as Social SONAR Mapping" where the community uploads their SONAR data for sharing so everyone involved in the project have much better contour and depth soundings ;)

You can find out more about how the system works on this page: https://www.genesismaps.com/HowItWorks

And here is the list of devices the system is designed to support on this page: https://www.genesismaps.com/HowItWorks/CompatibleDevices

What I really like is the quality of the map (once you zoom in) on the areas you would like to see, if any more detailed sonar data is present? And if not, I think you will still be surprised to see just how well the Social Map works just for general navigation for areas along the Coast for example. You can access the Social Map on this page here: https://www.genesismaps.com/SocialMap

Tight Lines!

I have heard of that. Not so popular here on the west coast. Probably because we don't have the boating population of the east coast.

I checked the map, I see some files uploaded for the West Coast. So you might want to look around and see if any are in the areas you fish and can help add upon ;)

Awesome! Thank you for that. I'll look.

I am thinking as a group, we may want to help add to this data base since some of us are running that equipment.

For me, I just need to figure out how to do it without swapping out those tiny and expensive chips all the time, since I have the FMT installed in mine and don't want to write back to it and stand the chance of overwriting a very expensive chip!

Something I am going to look into and feel since I would have 3 companies involved, it's going to be like herding cats... But the rewards for us all having access to hyper accurate sonar charting is well worth the time and effort. If you would like to help me send some notes or make a few calls just let me know
