Logic 15 Water Infiltration

Hi all. New to the site.

I have a '98 Logic 15 that I picked up recently. Love the boat and it's in great shape. Looks as though a previous owner may have had a speedo sensor mounted at the bottom of the transom, because now I have three empty screw holes there. The boat was in the water for a few days last weekend. When I pulled it out, a stream of water was coming out of one of the holes. I've searched a little on this site, and found that on some of the larger boats, people install drain fittings to relieve this type of water intrusion. Is that necessary on my boat? Or should I just drill a small hole at the lowest point, allow it to drain for a few days, then seal it up with a heat gun?
Thanks in advance!
