Storing bait rig (Sabiki)

On the west coast, we use a bait rigs called Sabiki's.
There are other brands of bait rigs but we call them Sabiki's

We can usually buy live bait (sardines / anchovies), but when fishing requires bigger baits (mackerel), we go to fishing these bait rigs.

My problem has always been storing these things w/o getting hooked or a tangled mess and the time it takes wind them up for storage or deploying them quickly.

Ive wasted alot of money throwing out tangled messes w/ tiny sharp hooks.

This is a CHEAP and EASY way to store and deploy these rigs.

Cut 1/2" PVC to the length of the bait rig.

Using a utility knife, cut a V shape groove at one end of the PVC.

When finished catching bait, slide the sinker end into the tube followed by the bait rig and hooks.

Stop just before the end swivel and wedge the mono into the V groove that you cut at the end of the tube.

Now unsnap the swivel from our main line & pole.

Your bait rig is stored and ready for the next trip.
My 186 has factoy holders for by nav. light which now holds my PVC bait-rig.

Totally awesome technique. Even though I too am from the west coast. i never had any luck at cathing the macks....any tips you can fly my way would be greatly appreaceated....

tips on makin macks- Find a local area thats known for macks (ex. bouy or kelp edge.

Next check you sonar for marks, start a chum slick (chum bucket @ boaterWorld)

Yoyo your Sabiki in the water @ various depths (usually 0-15 ft.)
Shake the line on the bucket to keep them interested.
Its easy.

Buy a bait dehooker thingy. The guys at the tackle stores know what Im talkin about. The less you physically touch the bait the longer they live.

Macks " Speed Squiding"

I live in Maine, I fish (drifting) where lobster boats are baiting traps any where from 30' to 90' deep use a 1 oz diamond jig or hopkins style on the end of mac rig drop it to the bottom as soon as it hits bottom crank it up fairly fast some times w'ell pick up bluefish this way on the larger diamond jig.
