Went out with my cousin and son for some more halibut action on Tuesday. Tides were not ideal, but I needed a fish. Wind also kicked up a bit early... around 10am. We jigged up some live anchovies but not near as many were around as the previous week. Drifted various spots near hog Island and ended up with 2 shorts and 2 legal ones. No sharks, rays, or anything else this time... it was pretty slow. The other boats that were coming in didn't have much, so at least I didn't feel like I was doing something wrong. One boat with two guys had a single halibut that was barely legal and another boat coming in got skunked. Radio traffic was pretty quiet, so I think even the salmon fishing in Bodega Bay is slowing down. We were the only boat using live anchovies that I'm aware of.
Hopefully those salmon will be moving into the Sacramento River in big numbers soon... then I can try out my new rod/reel combos.
