Trim motor problem yamaha 75

Wondering if anyone had this issue with a trim motor. Mine intermittently will not work. I have to tap on it with a screw driver and then it will come to life. Must be a connection problem. I was wondering if I had to replace the whole motor or if it could be repaired. Thoughts?

trim motors usually draw a lot of current, so the switches operate thru a solenoid. The contacts on the solenoids typically have issues. Check the solenoid and or the trim switches.

Thanks for getting back. I guess my question is, do I need to replace the whole motor or is there some way to repair the existing solenoid? Is it just a matter of taking it apart and cleaning it or does it need replacement? Guy at the marina said it would be a $600 replacement fee.

Thanks

It appears the solenoid is built into the motor. You might be able to clean it up. (what have you got to lose. I'd give it a try)

Yeah the marina.....everything is always at least 600 bucks. Try searching a little. ie: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Tilt-Trim-Motor-Yamaha-40-50-55-60-70-75-80-90-100-/161081255008. Just make sure it's the motor for your model engine. The remove & replace should be fairly simple.

here's another one. -- http://www.amazon.com/YAMAHA-MOTOR-100HP-STROKE-67F-43880-00-00/dp/B0052T6ZUS

Again, I'm not sure of you engine model number, but it's an example. You can do it.
