Typical Planer Board set-up
This is a diagram from the Big Jon web sight of a typical planerboard set-up or what they call an Otter boat. The board or Otter boat attach to the mast on the front of the boat you let out up to 150 ft. of line. Then you let out your lure or bait from your fishing rod then loop a rubber band around your fishing line attach that to a plastic shower curtain ring, or line release and let it slide out the planer board line.
This gets your line well out away from the boat. When the fish hit, the rubber band breaks, you let the fish drift back into the slot behind the boat, then reel it in.
