I recently avoided a near accident resulting from a design flaw in the Merc's throttle and shift control cable routing. The engine can be tipped too far forward, popping the cable latch inside the cowling, thus defeating the start-in-gear protection interlock provided in the remote control stick's neutral position.
I'll spare you the details (no damage or injuries) , but when both cables become unsecured, all heck can break loose.
I've contacted Merc.
Will keep you posted.
