This is not directly related to a Triumph boat, but I thought to post this somewhere in case anyone else thought the same as me. I was escorted back to the dock today by the CG for not having a throwable PDF on board (regardless of how many life jacket you have). This is my second time being boarded and I never had one, however, it seems that it is correct that you are required to have a type IV throwable PDF (at least in California anyway).

Yep - In California it is required that you have one on board.
I bought my boat new and they provided all the mandatory safety equipment including a Type IV.

We have our boat inspected every year, before we hit the water by the USCG Auxiliary.
For example we know that our boat Flares expire in August 2008 and we need to check our fire extinguisher while at it.
We make it a practice to TRY and stay ahead of requirements. Pleas note the key word is TRY.

Add Maryland to the list also. I keep a coil of rope attached to mine. Just in case someone needs to be pulled back to the boat.

Virginia too! Actually, I'm pretty sure it's a Coast Guard requirement...not a state requirement. Also, it must be out and "immediately available" for use...not stowed in a compartment. Makes sense, because if you need it, you need it NOW!

Same in NC. It mus tbe readily available. Found out last week by the CG. I was on the boat by myself and was boarded. My throwable was in a compartment and they explained the rules.I told them no one would be on the boat to throw it to me if I fell out. "They didn't think that was funny". I did have an inflatable life jacket on and the kill switch hooked to me so they let me slide.
