Ethanol. What a nightmare. It's here, it's gonna get worse. And amist the problem, opportunity arises.

After researching the issues with Ethanol mix fuel, the primary problem that presently has no prevention or solution, is the phase separation. Once the fuel in your tank separates, the only option stated by "Everyone" is to dispose of "all" the contaminated fuel. Not only is that a whole lot easier "said" than "done". It's an expensive waste. And it's not final.....the problem will continue to occur over and over. There is no additive presently available or even likely to be available that will cause the saturated Ethanol to re-mix with the gasoline or to absorb the water from the ethanol.

However that is not the end. I have used companies in the past to "polish" (filter) water contaminated fuel from sunk boats and they were able to remove 99.9% of the water from the fuel very effectively. Granted that was diesel or Non-ethanol gasoline. And using their equipment won't work for ethanol. But Molecular Sieves will. Designing a portable device that can easily remove & circulate the fuel from a boat's tank through a molecular sieve, should not be that difficult. Then the dehydrated ethanol will remix with the gasoline. Beats disposing of the fuel.

Cmon, any takers. Think about Apple. who knew how big they would be. This is a new problem, but it isn't going away and is only gonna get bigger.

Just do what my friend does when he has water in the fuel, drain a few cups of the water (since it sinks to the bottom where the pickup is) and run the boat on the rest of the fuel. Works for him.

That would be fine for good ole fashioned, Non-Ethanol fuel. The water stays separate from the gasoline and can be drained away. That's essentially what a water separating fuel filter does. But with Ethanol added, the water is absorbed by the Ethanol and is in solution with the Ethanol. The filters don't do much good. Then when it becomes saturated it splits apart from the gasoline, becoming two separate liquids of....1) Ethanol saturated with water in solution 2) degraded gasoline.
Bottom line: you can't drain off the water with Ethanol added fuel. It gets absorbed by the Ethanol. Sorry, while your buddy may be getting some water, it's only a small percentage of what's there.
And as an added note. The pickup is NOT on the bottom. It's slightly up from the bottom, so if won't pickup debris or contaminated fuel that would sink to the bottom.

This is how the Gov't got away with cramming the Ethanol down our throats, It's so confusing, nobody gets it. And most of the information being disseminated is false or misleading. And let's not forget, the main reason........all the pockets that are getting lined. :(
