This past weekend, members of the Gainesville Offshore Fishing Club had our spring tournament. Members could fish out of any port from Homossassa up to Keaton Beach. A new two-day format was used this year which added some new variety and strategy to the mix. Saturday was challenging due to (1) choppy, rough sea conditions made for a very bumpy day, (2) bilge malfunction meant me manning the manual bilge pump for an additional cardio workout, and (3) with a live well full of choice blue runners, the bait well pump decides to die out. By the time we reach our kingfish spot, all the runners had bellied up.

We managed two kings (largest 10 lb), a red grouper, and some nice spanish macks (biggest at 5.3lb) for the weekend. The weather on Sunday was much better, although we still had some big swells to trudge through and 2-3 water spouts kept your attention. I saw one boat snap their radio antenna after hitting the trough of big swell.

Everything worked out, no problems that couldn't be dealt with. We had a nice dinner at the tiki bar in Cedar Key Saturday night eating burgers, drinking beer, wathcing redfish tailing in the boat basin and listening to a not-so-good Johnny Cash cover singer. Boat's in the shop at this moment getting new pumps. Later guys...get out there and catch 'em up.

Some weekend pictures are attached.
