Figured out that it was time to update, I'd been running version 3.0 since buying the unit in March '08. The new version is 5.4 (guess I missed a couple along the way). After updating it is like having a new unit! All the new features are really nice and seems to run faster.
The update is really straightforward if you follow the website instructions but I required a call to Customer SErvice (as I said follow directions). I put the SD card with the update in the unit before turning it on thinking it would read/boot from the card. You put the SD card in after the unit is on and it works just like it is supposed to work. Even saved all my waypoints/tracks.
I've got a request into Garmin for info on updating options on my '08 g2 Vision card. We'll see.......
