you guys that have 215cc that are power by 150 e-tec help me out. i am only getting 5000 rpm out of my motor at 40mph. it is to my understanding that top rpm for this motor is 5850. i have a ss viper prop do not know what pitch it is. the dealer put it on. the boat hits plane in about 3 sec. the dealer told me the boat should do about 45,46 mph at top rpm but i cant get it there. most of the time i run 4000 rpm at 30mph. but i would like to get top rpm if needed. only thing i can think of is that the controll cable is not adjusted right for full rpm. let me know what rpm you are getting out of your motors please thanks.

Hi Glehav,

The 150/175/200 e-tecs should run between 4850 and 5850 RPM

The size and pitch is stamped on the hub of your prop.

I am currently going through the process of trying several props on my 195DC (175hp e-tec)
So far the 21in Viper only got to 4800rpm & 46mph ... the 17in Rebel also got 4800rpm but only 40mph.

Will be testing a 17in Viper and a 15in Cyclone later this week.

I would recommend that you contact your dealer and try several other props to decide which is the best for your setup.

Glehav,
Does your 215 have a T-Top? If so it will slow you down a bit. (It's worth it) My 150 Etec tops out a about 35 kts and I have a 14.8 x 15 aluminum prop. About 5200 rpm's. I started out with a 14.8 x 17
(A liitle slow) aluminum and the dealer recommended to try the 15". The SS prop gives you a little more. Last year I went the whole summa' without bottom paint and the boat got slower and slower until I cleaned the hull. I'm painting the bottom this year and am waiting to see the results. (I'll let you know)
Try to find out what size prop your running, I like your numbers and I'll make the switch.
Hope this helps.

whitto i did not know the pitch is stamped on the prop i will look and let you know. i do know that pitch on the prop has a lot to do with the rpm you get out of the motor.but than again the dealer said it should run 45 to 46 mph with this prop. sound like i need to talk to the dealer. i was hopeing to fine someone that had the same setup as me ( boat, prop ) and see if they are getting 5850 rpm out of their motors than i could tell the dealer that something might be wrong. thanks to the both of you guys for your help i will let you know what i find out. mike my boat does have a t-top looks like you are getting a higher rpm than me i cant get over 5000 but at that rpm i can it 40mph ez with two people and a full tank of gas.i had the boat in the lake last weekend wanted to see what mph i could get out of her i was kind of disapointed .

hay guys my prop is a 17'' whitto let me know how the 15''does on your boat. i do get a very good hole shot with the 17 could not ask for any better. just think my rpms are a little low from 40 mph to 45 or 46 mph is a big gap when it come to performance. whitto how much does your boat weigh.

i was looking at some old threads on the 215cc prop and rpms it sounds like i am running the right prop size... just the rpms are not there.....what next

We have a Yamaha F150 on our 210CC, and it took me a while to learn how and when to trim the motor up in order to increase the speed and RPM's.

If you have not experimented with trimming your motor much, that would be where I would start. BoatTest.com has our boat at 6000 rpm and 43.1 MPH. So far, we have hit 5900 rpm's and 42 MPH, with a full gas tank, two large guys, and other "stuff" on board. The motor was way higher than I was used to.

We are happy.

We didn't try the 15in ... the 17in Viper ran @ 5500rpm and 42mph. Great holeshot and solid power and trim.

My hull is around 2000lb + motor and gear.

Planning to run this setup for a while and then lift the motor a hole to improve performance and lift the revs. 5800rpm and 45mph will happen once the motor loosens up a little.

Like OVic says, play with your trim and trim-tabs (if you have them) to increase speed and RPM's. Anyways you'll be glad you've got the Etec when you figure out you fuel bill this year. Keep me/us posted.

i have been triming the motor up to get the best mph and rpms the motor only has 50 hrs. on it whitto my boats is 300 lbs heaver than yours that is part of it. what did the 21 viper do to your hole shot?.....you know i will never go 45 46 mph out in the gulf but it would be nice to know i could if i wanted to....mike what hole on your motor is it mounted in i was thinking about that yesterday mine is in the middle hole. vic what hole is your mounted in.. do you guys think that it needs to be mounted in another hole. i guess if i could get 43 44 mph at 5500 5600 rpm i would be happy.... and yes mike i am very happy with my e-ect too just think i should be able to get afew more 1000 rpms out of her let me know something guys

I attached the best picture I could find that also shows my motor. Hope this helps.

The 21in Viper was very slow out of the hole ... it sucked some air on tight corners even when the motor was trimmed all the way down.

Top end was great but the motor struggled. The 17in is much better right through the rev range.

It's a case of trial and more trial until you find what works best for you ... Good Luck Glehav :D

i took my boat back to the lake this weekend and it ran 42mph at 5200 rpm now thats almost there. i am happy with that. you know one thing i was not taking in to account was the wind was i runing with the wind or against it.and i did move some stuff out of the front storage locker. to make the bow lighter. whitto do you know if viper makes a 18" 14 1/2 prop that might be the ticket a little less bottom end and some more top end. i might go to one if any thing ever happens to the one i am running now.. my motor ran great. and we had a great time.... thanks whitto
