If you mean the how of it, I think you got real good answers on the other thread. If you mean the where of it, that can be somewhat variable.
Most have them on the starboard side, at a flat strake portion of the hull, with minimal turbulance causing protrusions ahead of the location. Run a search for "transducer" and you will find lots of information.
The odds of haveing a leak are very slim. the screws you use I doubt will over penitrat the transome thickness. Even if they were diping them in rule elastomeric sealant before you screw them in will not only help secure the screws in the transome it will seal out any water that may try to get in.
